The IFRA Analytical Working Group (AWG) has developed and released a new protocol for the analysis of parabens in fragrance raw materials, reinforcing IFRA’s commitment to robust scientific standards and transparent industry practices.
This method enables the detection and quantification of nine different parabens using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Operated in Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) mode, the method ensures accurate identification through two transitions per paraben, with retention time and MRM ratios serving as key criteria.
The protocol is applicable to various types of fragrance raw materials and supports consistent quality control across the industry.
This analytical method is part of IFRA’s broader work to ensure safe, reliable, and science-based tools available within the fragrance sector.
This release was announced through the IFRA Information Letter 1200, and this analytical method is now available on the IFRA website.
